The ultrasonic level gauge is a digital level gauge controlled by a microprocessor. In the measurement, ultrasonic pulses are emitted by the sensor (transducer). After the sound waves are reflected by the liquid surface, they are received by the same sensor or ultrasonic receiver. The piezoelectric crystal or magnetostrictive device converts it into an electrical signal, and calculates the distance between the sensor and the liquid surface by the time between the emission and reception of sound waves
